Powerful mantras for success: 8 to chant before you begin
Eight traditional mantras for success in work, study and new beginnings, from Ganesha and Saraswati to Hanuman and Krishna, with meaning and how to chant.
The mantras most chanted for success are Ganesha's, such as Vakratunda Mahakaya and Om Gam Ganapataye Namah, for a clear path; the Gayatri and Saraswati mantras, for a clear mind; Hanuman's, for courage and stamina; and Krishna's and Vishnu's, for steady effort without fear. No mantra does the work for you. In the tradition, a mantra steadies the mind, so that your effort is clear, patient and unafraid.
What a success mantra can and cannot do
In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna tells Arjuna that his right is to the action alone, never to its fruits. That is the spirit of every mantra on this page. Chanting does not guarantee a job, a rank or a deal. What people do find is that a few quiet minutes with a mantra before work makes them calmer, more focused and less afraid of failure, and those are real advantages in any effort.
So use these mantras in three ways:
- Before you begin, to set an intention.
- While you work, as a short return to calm when worry rises.
- After a result, good or bad, to let it go and keep going.

How to chant for success
- Set one clear intention. In a single sentence, name what you will do, not just what you want: "I will prepare well for this interview."
- Choose one mantra from this list and keep to it. Many people keep the same mantra for 40 days before judging it.
- Chant 11, 21 or 108 times at the same time each day, ideally before you start work. A japa counter keeps count.
- Then do the work. The mantra prepares the ground; your effort grows the crop.
- Let the result go. Chant once more after the outcome, whatever it is, and begin again.
You can also keep Mahakatha Radio playing quietly while you work. It plays Ganesha, Saraswati and Hanuman mantras among many others, day and night, free and without ads.
