Navratri mantras for all nine days
The mantra for each of the nine goddesses of Navratri, in Devanagari with transliteration and meaning, plus the Navarna mantra, Ya Devi and Sarvamangala. How and when to chant them.
During Navratri, each of the nine days belongs to one form of Goddess Durga. The simplest way to keep the festival is to chant that day's mantra, slowly and with attention, every morning. You do not need to know Sanskrit; listening along is enough to begin.
Navratri begins in 8 days
Day 1 is Sun, 11 Oct: Ghatasthapana and Shailaputri puja.

Navarna mantra
ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundayai Vichche
The nine-syllable mantra of the Devi, at the heart of the Durga Saptashati. It honours the goddess as Saraswati (Aim), Lakshmi (Hreem) and Kali (Kleem) together. Traditionally it is chanted after receiving it from a teacher; many families chant it 108 times a day during Navratri.
Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu

Durga Gayatri
ॐ महादेव्यै च विद्महे दुर्गायै च धीमहि। तन्नो देवी प्रचोदयात्॥ Om Mahadevyai Cha Vidmahe, Durgayai Cha Dhimahi, Tanno Devi Prachodayat
"We know the great Goddess, we meditate on Durga: may the Goddess inspire us." Listen on Mahakatha.
How to chant during Navratri
- Choose a time. Early morning is traditional, but any quiet, regular time works.
- Sit facing east or north, light a lamp, and take a few slow breaths.
- Chant the day's mantra 11, 21 or 108 times. A mala of 108 beads helps you keep count without counting.
- Finish with Sarvamangala or a moment of silence.
If you are new to mantras, start by listening. Through Navratri, Mahakatha Radio plays each goddess's mantra on her day, at the top of every hour from 5 am to 11 pm India time. It is free, without ads.
