Mantra for money: Lakshmi and Kubera mantras for abundance
Lakshmi and Kubera mantras for money and abundance, with meaning and how to chant them. An honest guide: gratitude and right effort, no promises of wealth.
The mantras most often chanted for money are those of Goddess Lakshmi, such as the Lakshmi Gayatri and Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah, and of Kubera, the guardian of wealth. In the tradition they are chanted for abundance, gratitude and steadiness with money, not as a shortcut to it. Chant one of them daily, 108 times if you can, and pair it with honest work and careful spending.
A word of honesty first. No mantra can make money appear, and anyone who promises "urgent money" from a chant is selling something. What these mantras can do is change how you hold money: with less fear, more gratitude, and a clearer head for the decisions that actually matter.
Five mantras for abundance
Karagre Vasate (morning)
Karaagre Vasate Lakshmi, Karamadhye Saraswati, Karamoole Tu Govinda, Prabhaate Karadarshanam
"Lakshmi lives at the tips of the fingers, Saraswati in the palm, Govinda at the base: so at dawn, look at your hands." Said on waking, it reminds you that wealth, knowledge and grace all pass through the work of your own hands. Listen on Mahakatha.
Lakshmi Gayatri
Om Shree Mahalakshmyai Cha Vidmahe, Vishnu Patnyai Cha Dheemahi, Tanno Lakshmi Prachodayat
"We know the great Lakshmi; we meditate on the consort of Vishnu: may Lakshmi inspire us." Traditionally chanted for abundance and for noticing new opportunities. A good mantra for daily japa of 108. Listen on Mahakatha.
Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai
Om Shreem Mahaalakshmyai Dhanapradaayai Namo Namah
"With a sincere heart I bow to Mahalakshmi, the giver of wealth." Shreem is Lakshmi's bija (seed) syllable. This short mantra is easy to chant through the day, and is traditionally used to ease fear and doubt around money. Listen on Mahakatha.
Kamale Kamalalaye
Om Shrim Hrim Shrim, Kamale Kamalalaye Prasida Prasida, Om Shrim Hrim Shrim, Mahalakshmyai Namah
"O lotus goddess who lives in the lotus, be pleased with us, be pleased: salutations to Mahalakshmi." Many families chant this on Fridays, Lakshmi's traditional day, and through the Diwali season. Listen on Mahakatha.
Kubera mantra
Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya, Dhanadhanyadhipataye, Dhanadhanyasamriddhim Me Dehi Dapaya Svaha
"I bow to Kubera, lord of the Yakshas, keeper of wealth and grain: bless us with plenty." Kubera is the treasurer of the gods, the one who looks after wealth rather than creates it. That is a good image for a mantra about money: care, order and stewardship. Traditionally chanted at Dhanteras and Diwali. Listen on Mahakatha.
How to chant for abundance
- Choose one mantra and stay with it for at least 40 days. Changing mantras every week rarely helps.
- Chant in the morning, after a bath, facing east or north. Light a lamp if you can. 108 times with a mala is traditional; 11 or 21 times is fine to begin.
- Begin with gratitude. Before chanting, name one thing you already have. Lakshmi is traditionally said to stay where she is welcomed and respected, not where she is chased.
- Pair it with action. After chanting, do one practical thing for your finances that day: a bill paid, a budget checked, a job application sent.
- Give something. Many traditions hold that wealth should flow. A small regular donation keeps the right spirit.
Fridays, Dhanteras and Diwali are the traditional days for Lakshmi puja. This year Dhanteras is on Friday 6 November 2026 and Diwali Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday 8 November 2026. Dates are for New Delhi; tithi timings shift slightly by city. See our Diwali Lakshmi mantra and Dhanteras mantra guides.

When money worries are heavy
If you are in real financial trouble, please speak to someone who can help in practical ways, such as a family elder, a trusted adviser or a debt counselling service, as well as praying. Mantras can steady the mind; they are not a plan on their own. If someone close to you is struggling, you can offer a prayer for them, read aloud on air at 7:00 am or 7:00 pm India time.
